Los Angeles, CA - December 21, 2017 -- Esteban Alvarez is a classically trained pianist born and raised in Costa Rica and currently residing in Austin, Texas. As one of the prestigious Steinway artists, Esteban infuses his work with a latin-jazz twist. His passion for music started at the age of 9 after his father brought him an electric keyboard. He was self taught until he began his studies with Prof. Omar Arroyo. Esteban went on to study music and physics at the University of Costa Rica, Classical Piano at Baylor, and then received a full scholarship to attend the Master’s program at the renown Jazz Studies Program at the University of North Texas where he studied under legends such as Chris Potter, Dave Brubeck, John Abercrombie, Jonathan Kreisberg, among others.
Esteban has performed with Maria Schneider, Jon Faddis, and Wycliff Gordon and headlined his own solo concerts in 2012, 2013 and 2014 in Hong Kong, as well as in the National Theater of Costa Rica. He has also composed music for small ensembles, orchestra, large ensembles, and chamber groups. In 2013 the title of Steinway Artist was bestowed upon him. His 2015 album "Tico Groove" netted Esteban several awards. Esteban’s latest album "Piano Meets Mariachi" is currently available on all major music platforms including iTunes. The album was recorded with one of the best and largest mariachi bands in the world, Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan and features a signature version of the song "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman".
